Below is a letter received from the TN SHIP Director Shannon Jones on January 30, 2017
Many of you know that in July 2016, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to defund the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) funding nationwide. As a result, several of you contacted your congressional offices and wrote articles in local publications voicing your concern over the negative effect that elimination of SHIP would have on beneficiaries in your local communities. The Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) recently sent a letter to all congressional offices across the state to share the great work the TN SHIP staff and volunteers do for their local Medicare beneficiaries. wanted to address the amazing work that was done during Medicare Open Enrollment 2016 as we started a new initiative to record our Part D savings. Across the state, TN SHIP saved clients over 3.5 million dollars in their prescription drug cost for 2017! There are not enough words to describe the gratitude we have to the staff and volunteers for making 2016 such a successful year for the program.
Thank you again for everything you do to help in your local communities and we look forward to another great year in 2017.
Shannon R. Jones
TN SHIP Director
